Welcome

At this time, we are providing an additional opportunity for your input on the Highway 652 extension alignment alternatives. Your input will be considered during the evaluation of alternatives and selection of a preferred alignment for the Highway 652 extension. Please complete the Post PIC 1 - Alignment Alternatives Questionnaire by Friday, April 28, 2023.

Please refer to the project website if you require higher resolution images of the Alignment Alternatives as you complete the questionnaire.

Ontario is moving ahead with the Planning, Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the extension of Highway 652 to Highway 11 in Cochrane (also called the Cochrane Bypass).

The project will connect Highway 652 to Highway 11, providing an alternate route for travellers and trucks moving goods and reducing traffic on municipal roads. The bypass is expected to divert a significant number of cars and trucks per day away from municipal roads. It will also improve safety and reduce travel times for families and truck drivers, while creating jobs in local communities.

The purpose of this phase of the project is to identify a Recommended Plan that addresses the current and future transportation needs of Highway 652 and Highway 11. This work will build on previous studies and recommendations, such as the Transportation Needs Assessment Report (2016) and studies done by the Town of Cochrane.

As part of this project, a Study Design Report (SDR) was completed and made available for public review. The SDR outlined why the project is needed, defined the study area, documented alternatives to the undertaking, and outlined the Class EA and consultation processes for the project.

The study also includes:

  • developing and evaluating alternatives
  • identifying appropriate improvements
  • determining potential impacts
  • outlining environmental protection/mitigation measures
